The Amazing Spider-Man is successful beyond expectations - $341 million worlwide

Newly released "The Amazing Spider-Man" has spun itself a huge opening weekend, wracking up $65 million this weekend and $140 million in its 1st six days in U.S. theaters. Worldwide, "The Amazing Spider-Man" has made a staggering $341.2 million. "This was never modeled or was never meant to be 'Spider-Man 4'. This was always a relaunch with a new cast and different stories to tell, and quite frankly, it succeeded beyond our imaginations," CBS News quoted Rory Bruer, Sony’s head of distribution, as saying.

Meanwhile, the previous weekend's number 1 film, Universal's teddy-bear comedy "Ted", fell to second-place with 32.6 million dollars, raising its domestic total to 120.2 million dollars. The raunchy flick has made $120 million since its release. According to Deadline, "Ted" is now eclipsing 2009's "The Hangover" as the biggest R-rated comedy.


In other box office news, Oliver Stone's "Savages" opened at No. 4 with a solid $16.2 million, while Katy Perry's concert film "Katy Perry: Part of Me" debuted to a disappointing $7.2 million.
