Maurice Sendak, writer and illustrator of 'Where The Wild Things Are' passed away

Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that a posthumous picture book, "My Brother's Book," is scheduled to be published in February 2013.
American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak was announced dead on Tuesday, May 8th. According to Associated Press his longtime caretaker and also friend, Lynn Caponera was along his side at the Danbury, Connecticut hospital. RIP Maurice Sendak.

The popular children's book author wrote Where The Wild Things Are in 1963. He won a Caldecott Medal for the book in 1964, and was adapted into a movie in 2009. Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that a posthumous picture book, My Brother's Book, is scheduled to be published in February 2013.

The staff of McSweeney's, the quarterly magazine and website founded by Dave Eggers, who wrote the novelization of Sendak's famed Where the Wild Things Are, tweeted, "We'll be roaring our terrible roars today. RIP, Maurice Sendak."
Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1928 to Polish-Jewish immigrants, Sendak lost much of his extended family in the holocaust. He began by illustrating others' books, notably the Little Bear series, before showing his writing skills in Where The Wild Things Are.

His 1970 work In The Night Kitchen caused controversy due to the nudity of child hero Mickey, who is trying to escape from evil bakers who want to cook him into a cake. Sendak illustrated more than 100 books and also designed sets and costumes for the stage.
