Madagascar 3 set to premiere at the Cannes Festival this summer

The first 3-D film in the series, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted recently released great news as they will not only present Alex and co.'s adventure in Europe, but it will also have its world premiere in the continent. According to The Hollywood Reporter DreamWorks Animation plans to debut the comedy pic during the prestigious 65th annual Cannes Film Festival this May. The Eric Darnell-directed animated movie is the first major studio title to surface in connection with this year's Cannes, which is commonly used to introduce summer tentpole movies.

It will be the second animation movie that Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks have premiered at the South of France festival, after 2008's premiere of Kung Fu Panda. Before Madagascar 3, Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks premiered "Kung Fu Panda" at the South of France festival in 2008. This year's festival will be running from May 19 up to 27.

In Madagascar 3, Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo and Melman the Giraffe are still trying to get home to New York and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for the comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent to Madagascar style.

Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer and Sacha Baron Cohen are all set to return to the voice cast ensemble. They are joined by the franchise newcomers, including Frances McDormand, Bryan Cranston, Martin Short and Jessica Chastain. The family movie is set to be released in the U.S. on June 8.

Moonrise Kingdom from Wes Anderson is the opener film at the French Festival.
