Hollywood couple Jay-Z and Beyonce seek to trademark their daughter's name 'Blue Ivy'
While Jay-Z and Beyonce's little daughter Blue Ivy became the youngest person to appear in the Billboard charts with the release of his dad's ode "Glory", her name may become a trademark, as her proud parents filed last month, Jan 26th to US Patent and Trademark Office an application to patent their daughter's name.
The Washington Post reports that Jay-Z and Bey submitted the paperwork in order to protect Blue Ivy from folks looking to cash in on her famous moniker, and to reserve her name for their own future line of baby products including carriages, diaper bags, baby cosmetics (yup) and other items we're guessing billionaire babies need.
The patent office has already received requests to trademark "Blue Ivy" and have been denying the filings, saying that the name belongs to a "very famous infant." Among the applicants was fashion designer Joseph Mbeh wanted to trademark "Blue Ivy Carter NYC" for a line of children's clothing that he was "planning" to pitch to Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
However, while most of these requests are being shut down, one boutique in Wisconsin - a clothing shop Sturgeon Bay - actually issued a trademark for "Blue Ivy" last August, well before baby Carter came along, and even before people find out about Bey's pregnancy.
