Coldplay's incredible gig at Coventry's Ricoh Arena brings boost to city's economy
According to officials reports, the band also brought a boost to the city's economy.
On May 29, the alternative rockers Coldplay have finally kicked off their UK stadium tour with an incredible two hours concert at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.
The band, who have been touring their latest album Mylo Xyloto since October brought with their performance a boost to the city's economy. According to Coventry telegraph, the marketing director of the venue Liz Cooper the business' and tourism has seen a noticeable benefit, not only the crowd that joined band's performance outside the arena. "In terms of hospitality, we looked after 2,000 corporate guests which is our largest number in one night for a concert and it was great preparation ahead of the Olympics which it is believed is going to be worth around £50 million to the local economy" she admitted.
"We also sold high volumes of refreshments and food within the stadium bowl and enticing such a large number of people to the city leads to business for taxi companies, hotels, shops and restaurants which can only be seen as a positive in this current economic climate. There is also a feel-good factor generated because everyone in the Ricoh who is from Coventry and Warwickshire must have felt pride that we are able to attract supergroups such as Coldplay."
At the same time, despite revealing that the much-talked about interactive, glow-in-the-dark wristbands were costing too much, the band still give each member of the crowd their own piece – and it worked interactively for the first three songs.
Chris Martin and his fellows didn't hold back on any of the other interactive parts of their show, and performed alongside confetti cannons, giant balloons, and a laser show throughout their whole set. They even made use of a lengthy runway and a second stage, which they used to perform more basic versions of their songs Princess of China, Up in Flames, and Warning Sign. They also played a crowd-pleasing setlist, which included fresh tracks from their new album, which included opening with the title track, and some of their best-known classics, like Yellow, Viva la Vida and Speed of Sound.
