Autopsy revealed the cause of death of the artist Thomas Kinkade
Kinkade, 54, died on April 6th at his home in Los Gatos in the San Francisco Bay Area. At that time the cause of his death appeared due to natural causes.
An autopsy report ruled the death of late artist Thomas Kinkade as an accidental overdose of alcohol and prescription tranquilizers. Kinkade, 54, died on April 6th at his home in Los Gatos in the San Francisco Bay Area. At that time the cause of his death appeared due to natural causes.
One month later, NBC Bay Area News reported Monday May 8 that the Santa Clara County medical examiner concluded that the self-described Painter of Light stopped breathing from a combination of alcohol and Valium. Before his death, the 54-year-old Kinkade produced sentimental scenes of country gardens and pastoral landscapes that he sold in a nationwide chain of galleries, fetching nearly $100 million a year in sales.
The autopsy also revealed that "hypertensive and atherosclerotic heart disease contributed to Kinkade's death, meaning that he suffered from heart problems caused by stress, as well as a plaque build up in his arteries."
In recent years, however, he had run into personal difficulties, including a 2010 bankruptcy filing by one of his companies.
His brother has said Kinkade battled alcoholism and relapsed before his death. A judge last month issued a restraining order against a former girlfriend, Amy Pinto-Walsh that prevents her from talking about the late painter. At the same time, the much acclaimed artist and painter was also arrested for drunk driving in 2010, which was the same year his company filed for bankruptcy.
