Sunidhi Chauhan was born Nidhi Chauhan. She started her singing career as a child, giving her first performance at the age of four in a local temple in Delhi.

Then she began to participate in a lot of different competitions. She was recognized in 1996 through the music show "Meri Aawaz Suno" - the first televised music contest in India - which was broadcast on the Indian national television channel Doordarshan.

She won the competition and got to record an album, but "Aira Ghaira Nathu Khaira" failed to do well.

Chauhan stepped into the world of playback singing with the 1996 Bollywood film "Shastra" by composer Aadesh Srivastava. Her big break came at the age of 16 when she sung the hit track "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi" and other songs from the 1999 Ram Gopal Verma film "Mast."

After her big breakthrough, there was no turning back for Chauhan. She has worked with almost all the leading singers, composers and lyricists of India. She has collaborated with Indian singers such as Alka Yagnik, Shaan, Udit Narayan, and is known for her popular pairing with Sukhwinder Singh.

Chauhan is most often paired with highly acclaimed singer Sonu Niigaam, and with the successful female playback singer Shreya Ghosal. She is perhaps the only Bollywood artist who can sing just about any genre. No wonder she is widely known as one of the Bollywood divas and is often compared to Western singers like Mariah Carey.

The year 2008 turned out to be successful for Chauhan as she went on to deliver a huge number of super hits like "Chhaliya," "Desi Girl," "Dance Pe Chance," and "Race Saanson Ki."

Chauhan went on to win the "Kelvinator GR8! FLO Women Award" in 2009 for her mind blowing contribution to music.
