Sonam Kapoor life and biography

Bakhtawar Murad Khan better known by her screenname Sonam is a former Bollywood actress. She is the niece of character actor Raza Murad and granddaughter of veteran character actor Murad. Her cousin is actress Sanober Kabir.

Sonam grew up in a particularly “normal and disciplined” environment. Neither she nor her siblings, Rhea (20) and Harsh (17), were exposed any more to the film world then any child growing up in a non-“filmi” surrounding.

Kapoor studied at Arya Vidya Mandir and then enrolled in the United World College of South East Asia to do her International Baccalaureate. She later graduated from the University of Mumbai with Political Science and Economics as her majors. She is fluent in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. She has received training in classical and Latin dance forms.

On her return from Singapore she decided to take a gap year, in which she realised that her favourite director (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) was starting on his new directorial venture. Then for perhaps the first time Sonam asked her father to take advantage of his place in the industry and get a good word in with Bhansali “Sir” so that she could assist him.She made her debut alongside newcomer Ranbir Kapoor in Bhansali's Saawariya (2007), which failed to do well at the box office.
