Shaun Jamal Phillips (born May 13, 1981 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), is an American football outside linebacker for the San Diego Chargers. Phillips is known as "The Other Guy" or "The Other Shaun/Shawne", as counterpart outside linebacker Shawne Merriman gets most of the fanfare and publicity.

By all accounts, Shaun Phillips was on the money in 2009. He recorded an NFL-leading seven forced fumbles and led the Chargers with seven sacks. He also tied Larry English for the team high with 16 hits on the opposing quarterback and tallied 14 quarterback pressures, second only to Shawne Merriman's 20. Phillips was an impetus down the stretch as all seven.

Phillips, who has missed only three games in the last four seasons, will enter 2010 ranked seventh on the team's all-time sacks list with 45.5, within striking distance of No. 6 Raylee Johnson (46.0), No. 5 Junior Seau (47.0) and No. 4 Fred Dean (53.5). And It’s easy to tell when Phillips has recorded a sack because he follows each with a unique celebration that shows him rolling an imaginary bowling ball in tribute to his grandmother, Jackie.

Besides his ascent as one of the NFL's top pass rushers, being actively involved in the entertainment, nonprofit and business worlds has made "SP" one of the NFL's most-recognized figures. Phillips is one of the top fundraisers and spokespersons for the After-School All-Stars, a nonprofit organization that designs after-school programs for inner city youth to give them a safe place to study and play.

Phillips makes a $1,000 donation to the After-School All-Stars for every sack that he records, and he has raised upwards of $100,000 as the host of celebrity bowling, Dodgeball and golf tournaments. Last December, Phillips hosted a special Christmas event for some After-School All-Stars who otherwise may not have had a reason to celebrate. And to further aid the growth of the After-School All-Stars, Phillips started "Touchdown Shutdown," a program in which 15 other NFL players are making donations to AAS based on their on-field production.

Phillips also lends support to the San Pasqual Academy, a residential school for foster teens in San Diego, and he has co-hosted football camps in his hometown of Willingboro,
New Jersey.

Phillips holds a degree in management from Purdue and is the first member of his family to graduate from college. In 2006, he enrolled in the NFL’s Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and in March 2010, he completed a Wall Street internship at the New York Stock Exchange.Phillips enjoys spending time with his sons, Jaylen, and twins Camron and Marcus, and his mom, Sherri. His hobbies include cooking, reading, fashion bowling, playing basketball, watching movies and traveling around the world.
