He has acted as a child actor in his father's film Vettiya Madichu Kattu. He was also an assistant director in his sister, Saranya Bhagyaraj's debut, Parijatham. He made his acting debut in Sakkarakatti, produced by S. Thanu and directed by Kala Prabhu. The film released with negative reviews in September 2008.
He is currently filming for two Tamil films,one with Sathyaraj, a Telugu film, and also a Malayalam film along side Mohanlal.
Shantanu earned a Bachelors degree in Economics from Loyola College, Chennai.
