Sam Lipsyte is an American fiction novelist, native from New York City and raised in Closer, New Jersey. He is also professor of fiction at the Columbia University.

His writing work begun at the webzine FEED as editor. Later, his fiction/short stories appeared in The Quarterly, The New Yorker, Harper's, Noon, Tin House, Open City, N+1, Slate, McSweeney's, Esquire, GQ, Bookforum, The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, Nouvelle Revue Française, The Paris Review, This Land among others. His novels/ short stories are characterized as black humor.

Hi 2011 novel "The Climber Room" is a short story about a thirty-something preschool teacher who dreams about having a baby of her own.
