Saloni Aswani was born in Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra into a Sindhi-speaking family. Her father was a Customs Officer. The family moved to CGS quarters at Wadala, Mumbai, when she was around 5 years old. It is here she started getting interested in acting. Infinitely loved by her father, who did not like her entry into films but was convinced on the trust and love his caring and dutiful daughter showered on him.
After completing school, she enrolled in Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University (SNDT) near New Marine Lines/Churchgate, Mumbai, and after graduating in Psychology, she took acting lessons in Ashok Kumar's Acting Academy, run by his daughter, Preeti Ganguly.
Throughout her academic career, she had always participated in dramas. She also participated with a theater group "Kala Sansad" and took part in one play only which was titled "Three Cheers" which had only 2 characters beside her. She was seen in only three decent ads which could be considered as her mere participation than endorsement. In her opinion, an actress should carry out herself morally and await good opportunity than going behind opportunities.
