A strong climber and time trialist he was selected to the 2005 Giro d'Italia squad with Discovery Channel and helped Paolo Savoldelli win the race, although failing to complete the course himself. After the 2005 season he left Discovery Channel and joined the Swiss team Phonak. With Phonak he proceeded to have his best results yet, having finished fourth in the 2006 Tour of Catalonia and finished second in the 2006 Canadian Time Trial Championship. Later that season he was selected to the 2006 Tour of Spain squad where he was performing very well, however left halfway through the race to concentrate on the World Cycling Championship in Salzburg. However his efforts did not pay off as he achieved only modest results. Due to the financial collapse of the Phonak cycling team he does not yet have an employer for the 2007 cycling season.
