Robert "Bob" Baer is an American author and a former CIA case officer assigned to the Middle East. He is TIME.com's intelligence columnist and has contributed to Vanity Fair, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. Baer is a frequent commentator and author about issues related to international relations, espionage and U.S. foreign policy.

Robert Baer is a retired CIA operative who now acts as a journalist and author. He claimed to be working with beheaded journalist Daniel Pearl on a joint project, investigating Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and not "shoe bomber" Richard Reid as everyone seems to think.

He occasionally appears as a talking head on cable news programs and in documentaries like Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War.
