Rob Sims life and biography

Rob Sims is an American football guard for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League.

* Acquired via trade by the Detroit Lions April 6, 2010 from the Seattle Seahawks.
* Placed on Reserve/Injured list be the Seahawks September 10. 2008.
* Drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round (128th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft.

PRO: Joined Detroit in 2010, via trade with Seattle, to help solidify left guard position on the offensive line. Played his first four seasons (2006-09) with the Seahawks. Has appeared in 57 games (46 starts) during his career, and has played in four postseason games (four starts).

* In 2009, Sims saw action in 14 games with 14 starts at left guard and was inactive for two contests with an ankle injury.
* Played and started in only one game during the 2008 season after being placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury.
* Started in all 16 games played in 2007, including both postseason matchups.
* Saw time in 14 games during his 2006 rookie campaign with three starts, and played and started in both postseason appearances.
* Started all four playoff games during his first two seasons for Seattle and helped Shaun Alexander rush for 108 yards and two touchdowns in NFC Divisional Playoff his rookie year at Chicago (1/14/06).

2010: Team’s starting left guard. Part of offensive line that ranks fifth in NFL in Sacks per Pass Play (4.15 pct.), giving up just 21 sacks this year on 529 pass plays.
* Started in season opener at Chicago (9/12).
* Part of an offensive line against Philadelphia (9/19) that helped team rush for 115 yards, including 78 and 2 touchdowns from rookie Jahvid Best.
* Starting left guard against Washington (10/31). Helped offensive line allow just a single sack on 46 pass plays.

2009: Saw action in 14 games with 14 starts at left guard and was inactive for two: vs. Arizona (10/18) and vs. Jacksonville (10/11).
* Started at left guard vs. St. Louis (9/13) and was part of an offensive line that did not allow a sack.
* Started at left guard vs. Chicago (9/27) but left game early in the third quarter with a strained oblique.
* Returned from oblique injury to start at Indianapolis (10/4), but left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.
* Was part of an offensive line at Arizona (11/15) that lead team to 164 yards rushing against NFL’s fourth-ranked run defense.
* Helped lead to a season-high 170 rushing yards at St. Louis (11/29).

2008: Was placed on injured reserve September 10 with a pectoral muscle injury forcing him to miss the remaining15 games of the season.

2007: Started in all 16 games played.
* Was part of an offensive line that helped the team rush for a 2007 season-high 167 yards at Atlanta (12/30).

2006: Played in 14 games during his rookie campaign with three starts.
* Made NFL debut replacing Chris Gray (knee) in the third game of the 2006 season vs. New York Giants (9/24) and did not allow a sack.

COLLEGE:
Started 40 of 47 games for the Buckeyes, earning 12 of those starts at left guard. Shifted to left guard from left tackle prior to senior season earning All-Big Ten Conference first-team honors.
* Made 28 starts at left tackle as an underclassmen and produced 83 key blocks and eight touchdown-resulting blocks for an offense that collected 5,068 yards, an average of 422.8 yards per game his senior year.
* His ability to shut down the blitz and stunts saw the offensive line allow only 18 quarterback sacks on the season.
* Took over left tackle duties when incumbent Ivan Douglas was sidelined with healthy problems (blood clot) during sophomore season.

PERSONAL:
Son of the late Cleveland Browns tackle Robert “Mickey” Sims (1977-79). Was a first-team All-Ohio selection at offensive tackle during senior season at Nordonia High School.
* Started at guard as a sophomore and junior before moving to tackle his senior season.
* Earned letters in basketball and two in track, finishing fourth in the state in the shot put as a senior.
* Communications major at Ohio State.
