Ranbir Kapoor made his debut as an actor in November 2007 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s Saawariya. His co actor in this film was the newcomer Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor`s daughter. The film had a moderate success at the box office. However, he received many positive remarks for his breathtaking portrayal of the lovesick singer, Ranbir Raj. Many directors and film critics have addressed Ranbir Kapoor as supremely talented. His handsome looks and his sincerity in the performance are the striking features of the actor.
In June 2008, Kapoor is seen in the lead role in film Bachna Ae Haseeno, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film released on August 15, 2008. Moreover, he is coming up with Rajkumar Santoshi`s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani opposite Katrina Kaif and Wake up Sid, with his heroine as Konkona Sen Sharma. In 2008, Ranbir Kapoor was prized with Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer - Male in the film Saawariya and also the Nokia Future of Entertainment Award.
