Raakhee is an Indian film actress, who has primarily appeared in Hindi films, as well as several Bengali films. She is popularly known as Raakhee Gulzar after her marriage with lyricist-director Gulzar .

Meghna who is the director of movies like Filhaal, Just Married and Dus Kahaniyaan is Rakhi's daughter. At one phase of her life, Rakhee became an alcoholic and used to drink a lot.

Rakhee started her career with a Bengali film Badhu Baran in 1967 and in 1970 she got the offer for Rajshri Productions Jeevan Mrityu, where she was seen opposite Dharmendra.

In the 1971 film Sharmilee, she was paired up with Shashi Kapoor and enjoyed a lot of popularity. It was then followed by many more blockbusters like Heera Panna (1973), Daag (1973), Blackmail (1973) and Tapasya (1976).

Her hit list didn't stop till 1982 as she added nine more to the list namely Kabhie Kabhie (1976), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1977), Kasme Vaade (1978), Trishul (1978), Kaala Patthar (1979), Jurmana (1979), Barsaat Ki Ek Raat (1981), Lawaaris (1981) and Bemisal (1982).

Rakhee created great onscreen chemistry with superstar Amitabh Bachchan but she has also played Amitabh's sister-in-law in Shaan(1980) and his mother in Shakti (1982). During the late 80s, Rakhee started playing the role of a mother in films like Ram Lakhan (1989), Baazigar (1993), Khalnayak (1993), Karan Arjun (1995), Border (1997), Soldier (1998) and Baadshah (1999). The most recent and the latest one was Dil Ka Rishta(2003).

For her performance in Tapasya(1976), she received the Filmfare Best Actress Award and Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Daag: A poem of love(1973). She also won the Padmashri Award in 2003.
