After playing in two mediocre bands, Pritam started producing songs and jingles for commercials, and made some good friends in the process. When Sanjay Gadhiv was given the job to direct "Tere Liye," he arranged for his friends Pritam and Jeet to compose the soundtrack. The movie didn't do too well at the box office, but the soundtrack got some attention.
Pritam finally got his big break in 2002 when he and Jeet composed the music for Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. The movie was a hit and the soundtrack was packed with chart toppers. The soundtrack was diverse with sweet and classic music styles as well as upbeat, clubby tracks .Shortly after Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Pritam and Jeet went separate ways and Pritam's solo career took off.
His next hit album was for the film Dhoom and the title track Dhoom Machale is still a favorite at parties. Pritam went on to make the soundtracks for Chocolate, Garam Masala,Dhoom 2, Singh is Kinng and Love Aj Kal.
Pritam also works as a judge on the Zee TV singing competition Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. But despite his success in the music industry, Pritam has been the object of controversy. Time and time again artists from around the world have accused him of copying their music without giving them any credit for their work. Whether these accusations are true or not, Pritam has proven himself to be one of the top music composers today. His soundtracks are always great hits and we can only expect more to come.
