Preeya Kalidas life and biography

Preeya Kalidas was born in 1980. Her father is a financial advisor and her mother works for British Airways. Preeya is a London born singer, dancer, and actress who has been seen on the big screen, on television, and on stage. Preeya started her dancing career at the age of three with ballet lessons and continued her passion for dance by taking up tap dancing at the age of five.


Kalidas has trained at both the Sylvia Young Theatre School and Songtime Theatre Arts center. Her time at these theatre schools really ignited her passion for acting.

Preeya Kalidas’s first attempt at acting was in a drama called Googleyes. In 1988 she featured in a short film called Jump Boy. A few of Preeya’s most acclaimed roles have been in East is East, Bodies, EastEnders, and Casualty.

Preeya played Monica in Gurinder Chadhas film Bend it Like Beckham. Another claim to fame that Preeya Kalidas has under her belt is as the female lead in Bombay Dreams, which was written by A.R. Rahman. Preeya also sang the popular song Shakalaka Baby in Bombay Dreams, which later won an award at the MTV Asia Awards.

After playing Amira Shah for almost a year on the popular British soap "EastEnders," the actress announced early 2010 that she was leaving the series for a new career in pop music!The "Bend it Like Beckham" actress is currently hard at work recording her first single and is set to leave the series in the summer of 2010.

Preeya's spokesperson told the press that "The BBC and Preeya agreed to extend her contract for a short period because of her prominent storyline. She is at present recording her first record, due to be released in the summer. At the moment she is recording her first album. It will be released later this year."
