Paul Hackett is in his third year on the Raiders staff and second as quarterbacks coach. Hackett, who assisted the Raiders coaching staff with special projects in 2008, enters his 41st season as a coach at the college and NFL levels. Hackett has served on a Super Bowl and an NCAA National Championship staff during his career. He has been with four division winners as an NFL offensive coordinator, helping lead teams to seven playoff appearances and a 90-54 record in nine seasons. In his last 14 seasons as an NFL assistant coach, Hackett helped nine teams reach the playoffs. Before coming to Oakland, Hackett was quarterbacks coach at Tampa Bay from 2005-07 and helped the Buccaneers to two playoff appearances. Hackett was the New York Jets offensive coordinator from 2001-04, helping the Jets make the playoffs in three of his four seasons. Hackett joined the Jets after three seasons as head coach for the University of Southern California (1998-00).
Before USC, Hackett was Kansas City’s offensive coordinator (1993-97). Hackett also spent four years at the University of Pittsburgh (1989-92), including three as head coach. He began his pro coaching career with Cleveland (1981-82) and later served as an assistant with San Francisco (1982-85) and Dallas (1986-88). Before entering the NFL, Hackett spent five years at USC (1976-80) as quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. During his tenure, the Trojans won the 1978 National Championship and played in four bowl games, including three Rose Bowls. Hackett began his coaching career at his alma mater, UC Davis, in 1969 and later served as an assistant coach at California (1972-75).
As a player, Hackett was a three-year starter at quarterback for UC Davis (1966-68). A graduate of Miramonte High School in Orinda, Calif., he and his wife Elizabeth have two sons, David and Nathaniel.
