Born to Puerto Rican parents in New York City, Castro was raised in the Bronx and attended Public School 83 and Intermediate School 181. She later attended Westtown School, a Quaker boarding school in Pennsylvania and graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1996. She later obtained a Masters of Arts in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Prior to her career with ABC News, Castro was a general assignment reporter for WPIX in New York. She worked as a reporter for News 12, a local cable news network in the Bronx. She taught briefly at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn as an English teacher. In September 2010, Castro left GMA Weekend. On January 3, 2011, as part of a complete show overhaul, Castro became the weekday weather forecaster for The Early Show on CBS replacing Dave Price.
Marysol Castro has also covered a wide variety of non weather related stories. In 2009, Marysol Castro followed a group of undocumented students from UC Berkeley as they struggled with the prospect of deportation. Marysol Castro also followed the life of a California family whose daughter is allergic to virtually everything. In February 2010, Marysol Castro reported on the orphan crisis following the Haitian earthquake. Marysol Castro took on the role of trapeze artist in a production of Cirque de Soleil in 2007, drove the pace car for the Indy 500 with both Patrick Dempsey and former Secretary of State Colin Powell, swam with sharks at an aquarium in New Jersey, cliff dove in Oahu, Hawaii, tossed the football with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and covered the Academy Awards from the red carpet in 2004 and 2005. Marysol Castro scoured the Lower 48 in search of the best breakfast, ice cream, and dessert and attempted playing one-on-one with WNBA star Lisa Leslie.
Before joining ABC News, Marysol Castro served as a general assignment reporter for WPIX-TV in New York. Prior to that, Marysol Castro worked as an anchor and correspondent for News 12 The Bronx (2000-2002). In her former life, Marysol Castro taught high school English in Brooklyn, New York.
