Davids hails from Mitchell's Plain on the Cape Flats.
Davids came to Djurgårdens IF from TSV 1860 München in Germany at the start of the 2006 season, but had a tough time establishing himself as a regular starter in the beginning of the season. However, as the season went on, Davids became a more and more regular name in the Djurgården starting line-up. During the 2007 season, Davids played on the right wing as a midfielder or as a defender.
An industrious and resilient character at his best in a midfield holding role, Davids can also fill in at right back or right wing-back. Ex-Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter gave him his first cap against Australia in March 2004.
He left his homeland at the age of 16 to try his luck in the youth section of German side 1860 Munich before moving to Stockholm side Djurgardens. Davids returned home early last year, initially joining Supersport United as a free agent, then signing for Ajax's Cape Town satellite club.
"We're in the fantastic position of having no pressure on us," he says. "Sure, the people of South Africa want to believe in us, but we are not expected to shine by anyone else. We'll be relaxed yet focused on putting on a show for our people."
In December 2007, he visited two English Premier League clubs, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United for a trial, but no transfer was made during the 2007-08 transfer window.
In early 2009, he signed as a free agent with South African champions Supersport United on a short-term contract.
