Joshua "Josh" Malik Childress is an American professional basketball player with the Phoenix Suns of the NBA. He previously played with the pro club Olympiacos Piraeus in the Greek A1 League and the Euroleague.

2009-10:

On July 14, 2010, acquired by the Suns in a sign-and-trade deal with the Atlanta Hawks... Spent the last two seasons with Greek club Olympiacos, the most successful basketball franchise in Greece and a traditional European powerhouse, where he signed following the 2007-08 NBA season... Led Olympiacos to a 23-3 record in Greek League play in 2009-10 and a berth in the Greek League Finals... Averaged a team-leading 15.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in Greek League action last season and also posted 15.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in Euroleague play.

Originally selected with the sixth overall pick of the 2004 NBA Draft by the Hawks, spent first four career seasons (only four NBA seasons) in Atlanta… Signed with Greek club Olympiacos Piraeus on July 23, 2008 and spent two seasons there… Owns career NBA averages of 11.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 31.3 minutes in 285 games (67 starts)… Has averaged double-digit scoring in every professional season… Has shot 50 percent or better from the field in three of four NBA seasons and is a career 52.2-percent shooter overall… Last NBA season was 2007-08 when he was one of the league’s top sixth men and helped an upstart Hawks team end an eight-year playoff drought and push their opening round series with the eventual champion Boston Celtics to seven games… Was the second-leading scorer of any player who did not start a game (J.R. Smith) in 2007-08… That season, ranked sixth in the NBA in field goal percentage (career-high .571), establishing the third-best single-season mark in Atlanta franchise history… Averaged a career-high 13.0 points in 2006-07… In 2005-06, would have led the league in three-point percentage (.492) and ranked third in field goal percentage (.552) had he met the statistical minimums to qualify in those categories… Earned All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2005, becoming the first Hawk to do so since Jason Terry in 2000, after averaging 10.1 points and 6.0 rebounds in 80 games… Selected to play for the United States team at the 2003 Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic.

An early entry candidate for the 2004 NBA Draft, Childress played three seasons at Stanford for coach Mike Montgomery • He was named the 2003-04 Pac-10 Player of the Year, the first in school history, and was a finalist for Rupp, Naismith and Wooden Player of the Year Awards • Led the school to a 74-21 record, the 2003-04 Pac-10 Title and three NCAA Tournament appearances during his career • Childress' name appears 17 times in the Stanford record book • He finished his three-year career totaling 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 86 games • Named First Team All-America as a junior (2003-04) by a number of media outlets, including the AP, Sports Illustrated and Basketball Times, despite missing the first nine games of the season with a stress reaction in his left foot • Childress led the Cardinal and ranked 9th in the Pac-10 in scoring (15.7 ppg) • Paced the team in rebounding (7.5 rpg), which ranked 5th in the conference, and blocked shots with 37 (third) • Finished 5th in the Pac-10 in free throw percentage (.821) • Scored in double-figures in 22 of 23 games, while also averaging 2.7 assists • Shot .488 from the field and .395 from three-point range • Tallied a career-high 36 points against USC • Named MVP of the Pac-10 Tournament after scoring 49 points over three games • Honorable Mention All-Pac 10 as a sophomore (2002-03), with averages of 14.1 points (14th in the conference), a team-leading 8.1 rebounds (2nd in Pac-10) and 1.4 blocks • Also posted 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals, while shooting .427 from the floor, .333 from beyond the arc and .719 from the foul line • Notched a season-best 22 points, to go along with 11 rebounds, five assists and four blocks versus San Diego in the first round of the NCAA Tournament • As a freshman (2001-02), averaged 7.8 points and was the team's second-leading rebounder (4.8 rpg) • Scored a season-high 21 points against Purdue • Became only the second freshman to start his first game (former Hawk Brevin Knight was the other) in Montgomery's 18-year tenure at the school • Named Honorable Mention All-Pac 10 Freshman.
