John Kirkpatrick was an American pianist.

He studied with Nadia Boulanger. He taught at Monticello College, Mt. Holyoke College, and Cornell University; he was a professor Emeritus at Yale School of Music.

He edited the music of and corresponded with Henry Cowell, Roy Harris, Ross Lee Finney, Aaron Copland, and Elliott Carter. He was a friend of Charles Ives and Charles Ruggles. He premiered Charles Ives's "Concord Sonata" in Concord.

His papers are held at the Yale University library.
