Joey+Rory: A Harmonious Journey in Country Music

Joey+Rory, the captivating American country music duo, brought together the musical talents of singer-songwriters Rory Lee Feek and Joey Martin Feek. Born on September 9, 1975, Joey Martin Feek left an indelible mark on the duo's legacy until her departure on March 4, 2016. Beyond their musical synergy, Rory and Joey were bound by the threads of matrimony.

Emerging on the Country Scene

Joey was the duo's lead vocalist, while Rory sing background vocals and plays guitar. The duo was the third-place finalist on CMT's competition Can You Duet in 2008. That same year, Joey + Rory signed to Sugar Hill/Vanguard Records, releasing their debut album The Life of a Song in late October.

Joey+Rory announced on October 15, 2009, that they were in the studio working on the follow-up album to The Life of a Song. The album, titled Album Number Two, was announced in January 2010 and released on September 14, 2010. The lead-off single, "This Song's for You", was released to radio in July 2010; originally "That's Important to Me" had been chosen, but the single choice was changed. The music video for "This Song's for You" was directed by Darren Doane and was released in August 2010. "That's Important to Me" was released as the album's second single in October 2010. It debuted at number 58 on the Hot Country Songs chart for the week ending February 12, 2011.

Accolades and Recognition

On March 16, 2010, it was announced that the duo were the winners of the 2010 Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Vocal Duo, and would compete alongside Luke Bryan and Gloriana for the Top New Artist award. Joey+Rory performed new songs from their upcoming album, were interviewed, and received their award on the GAC special "ACM Top New Artists" on April 1, 2010.

Evolving Harmonies and Personal Triumphs

In the latter part of their musical journey, Joey+Rory continued to enchant audiences with new releases. On August 29, 2011, they unveiled a new single titled "Headache," a country gem that, despite not charting, added another layer to their musical repertoire. The holiday season of 2011 saw the duo spreading festive cheer with the release of their first Christmas album, "A Farmhouse Christmas," on October 11.

The duo's third studio album, "His and Hers," made its debut on July 31, 2012. Despite "When I'm Gone" and "Josephine" being released as the album's first singles, they faced a challenging road on the radio charts. However, a twist of fate in late 2015 saw "When I'm Gone" enter the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart at number 21, spurred by increased sales after the song's video garnered attention.

From 2013 to 2016, Joey+Rory ventured into the realm of gospel music, fulfilling a long-held dream of Joey Feek. Their album "Inspired: Songs of Faith & Family," released on July 16, 2013, via Gaither Music Group, showcased the timeless beauty of old gospel songs. Their musical diversity continued with "Made to Last," the duo's fifth studio album, self-released on their Farmhouse Recordings record label in late 2013. This creative journey extended to "Country Classics: A Tapestry of Our Musical Heritage," exclusively released to Cracker Barrel in May 2014.

The duo's seventh and final studio album, "Hymns That Are Important to Us," became a poignant "dream project" for Joey Feek. Released on February 12, 2016, via Gaither Music Group, the album comprised twelve covers of Christian hymns, including a reprise of "When I'm Gone." The deluxe edition contributed to the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation, a charity chosen by Joey Feek in honor of her daughter's friend.

Creative Beyond Music

Rory Feek, showcasing his multifaceted talents, wrote and produced a film titled "Josephine," set against the backdrop of the American Civil War. The film featured the couple's song of the same name and debuted at the Nashville Film Festival in summer 2016, adding a cinematic chapter to their artistic legacy.

A Bittersweet Farewell

Tragically, the duo faced the harsh realities of life. In late 2015, Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer, leading to her untimely demise in March 2016. Despite this heartbreaking loss, Joey+Rory's musical legacy and creative endeavors continue to resonate, leaving an enduring impact on the country music landscape.
