JK grew up in a very traditional and family-orientated environment. Because of his traditional Panjabi upbringing, he was able to have a deep connection with his roots and speaks fluent Panjabi.
Wanting to get into Panjab music, JK bought himself a Dhol drum and taught himself to play by listening to clips from tapes and CDs. Alongside this he found himself singing along to his favorite songs.
JK has also been learning the harmonium under the direction of Tru-Skool since 2000. JK’s influences include Kuldip Manak, Surinder Shinda, Sardool Sikander, Chamkila and Mohd Saddiq.
After years of gaining theoretical knowledge and practice, JKs' first public appearance on stage was at the Singh Sabha Gurudwara in his home town Derby. Accompanied by Tru Skool on the harmonium and Satnam Singh on the Tabla, JK recited Dharmeek Sangeet in his rendition of some of his favorite Kuldip Manak releases.
Since 2003 JK has been training in classical singing with Pritam Singh. JK’s venture into classical music has been inspired by artists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Ghulam Ali.
After careful consideration and many other record deal offers, JK decided to sign with VIP records. JK will continue to perform live and his album will showcase his vocals and his song-writing abilities.
