Jessica Capshaw is an American actress. Capshaw was born in Columbia, Missouri, the daughter of actress and producer Kate Capshaw, and Robert Capshaw, a sales manager, marketing director, business executive, and high school principal

Jessica is the daughter of actress Kate Capshaw and salesman Bob Capshaw. She is also the stepdaughter of Steven Spielberg. She was born in Columbia, Missouri where both parents were students at the University of Missouri. The family moved to New York then to pursue Kate's modeling career. Her parents divorced when she was 3 and Jessica got drawn along in her mother's new world. Kate married Spielberg when Jessica was 15. Among her three parents, she is one of 10 biological and adopted siblings. Jessica graduated from Brown University in 1998 with an English degree.She then attended acting classes at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. From there, she got her first acting role on TV's "Odd Man Out" (1999).

After appearing in several student productions during high school and college, Jessica's first feature film was "The Locusts" in 1997, a drama set in the 1960's starring Vince Vaughn, Paul Rudd, Ashley Judd, and her mother. This was followed by a series of guest appearances on TV shows and minor roles in movies. Jessica's next major role was in "Valentine" in 2001, a horror flick with David Boreanaz and Denise Richards, followed by a small part in Spielberg's Minority Report in 2002.

Jessica's big television break came in 2002 when she was cast as Jamie Stringer on "The Practice", an ambitious new Harvard graduate, until the show ended its run in 2004. After that, Jessica appeared in Spielberg's miniseries "Into The West" in 2005, an epic story about life in the American West in the 19th century. She then had a supporting role in the comedy "The Groomsmen" (2006).

Jessica returned to TV to guest star on two episodes of Bones in 2006 as Booth's (David Boreanaz) ex-girlfriend and mother of his son. She then landed a starring role on the sitcom "Thick and Thin" that same year, but the show had a short run. Jessica then guest starred on three episodes of "The L Word" in 2007 as Bette Porter's (Jennifer Beals) love interest, Nadia Karella.

Jessica joined "Grey's Anatomy" as a guest star in January 2009 as pediatric surgeon, Dr. Arizona Robbins, and has since signed on as a series regular.
