The Eurasian son of a Malaysian Chinese father, and Scottish Irish mother (Celtic singer Mae McKenna), he was born and raised in New Malden in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Greater London.
He was educated at Sacred Heart RC Primary School (New Malden), S.T Catherines RC Middle School (Raynes Park) & Wimbledon College (Wimbledon). He later attended the BRIT School, where he graduated the year behind Amy Winehouse, whom he later supported live.
Woon's sound and style is presently described as soul inflected vocals backed by samplers and programming, or a single guitar track. He describes his music as "... R&B, it's groove-based vocal-led music ..."
Jamie debuted in 2006 with a startling folk-soul a cappella update of "The Wayfaring Stranger." Initially issued as a one-sided 12" single, the song was released again the following February with an original, "Gravity," and a pair of remixes, including one by dubstep innovator Burial. BBC Radio DJ Gilles Peterson selected the a cappella version for his second Brownswood Bubblers compilation, released later that year, which significantly raised the musician's profile.
After providing vocals for a handful of producers (including Subeena's "Solidify," Ramadanman's "The Woon," Le Professeur Inlassable's "Akileus," and Débruit's "I'm Goin wit You") and another compilation appearance, Woon released his second proper single, the moody "Night Air," in 2010. Ramadanman returned the earlier favor and remixed the track for the flip side.
Woon's debut album is entitled Mirrorwriting and was released on 18 April 2011 via Polydor Records. From this album he had one single,Lady Luck.
His latest single is "Shoulda",who is gaining a lot of succes.
