Jamaal Anderson is an American football defensive lineman for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Falcons eighth overall in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football at Arkansas.

Career


In his first three seasons in a Falcons uniform, has totaled 115 tackles (82 solo), 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble and eight passes defensed.

2009 (FALCONS)
In 13 starts, totaled 34 tackles (25 solo), 0.5 sacks and two passes defensed. Registered five tackles and one tackle for loss at New Orleans (11/2). Tallied two tackles against Washington (11/8) to put him over 100 stops for his career. Logged three tackles and one pass defensed against Philadelphia (12/6).

2008 (FALCONs)
Started 15 games and finished the season with 36 tackles (28 solo), two sacks and three passes defensed. Tied a career-high in tackles (seven) including a career-high six solo stops at Tampa Bay (9/14). Registered two tackles, two passes defensed and his first career sack (four yards) vs. Chicago (10/12). Tallied two tackles and one sack (six yards) at Philadelphia (10/26). Recorded two tackles and blocked his first career field goal at San Diego (11/30).

2007 (FALCONS)
In his rookie season, started all 16 games and finished with 45 tackles, three passes defensed and one forced fumble. Collared four tackles and recorded his first career forced fumble at Tennessee (10/7). The fumble was recovered by CB DeAngelo Hall and returned 56 yards for a touchdown, giving the Falcons an early 7-0 lead. Collected seven tackles at Carolina (11/11) for a defensive unit that allowed a season-low 10 first downs in a 20-13 victory. Notched a career-high five solo tackles vs. Indianapolis (11/22). Tied a career-high with seven tackles at Tampa Bay (12/16).

College
Totaled 130 tackles and 17.5 sacks in his three-year career at Arkansas. In his senior season, recorded 13.5 sacks which ranked third in the nation and led the Southeastern Conference. Ranked sixth on the team with 65 tackles (44 solo) and finished second in the SEC and 12th in the nation with an average of 1.43 stops behind the line of scrimmage per game. Tallied 47 tackles (28 solo) with four sacks for -33 yards and ranked second on the squad with 10.5 stops for losses totaling 58 yards in his junior campaign. Earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors versus Mississippi State.

Personal
Attended Parkview (Little Rock, Ark.) High School and was a standout wide receiver and defensive end. Also added All-Junior Arkansas honors in addition to receiving All-Conference accolades. Voted the most outstanding receiver on his squad. Left as the all-time leading receiver at Parkview High history after eclipsing the mark held by former Green Bay Packers tight end Keith Jackson. Racked up 85 catches for 1,620 yards and 13 touchdowns. Owns career school records for the most receptions and most touchdown catches. Sociology major. Member of the 2004–05 Lon Farrell Academic Honor Roll. Son of Karen and Glenn Anderson. Born February 6, 1986.
