Hester's career
So good was the platoon of Jacob Hester and Mike Tolbert late last season that the duo became a fixture in the offensive backfield, often taking turns at both tailback and fullback, trading places one play at a time. The results were all positive as the two helped the Chargers close the season on an 11-game win streak.
When Chargers GM A.J. Smith traded up in the 2008 NFL Draft to land Hester, one of the traits that he found most appealing was Hester’s willingness to 'do it all.' He brings that same work ethic to the Chargers’ special teams where Hester has become one of San Diego’s top performers. He scored two special teams touchdowns in 2009 and deflected a punt in the Chargers' Wild Card Playoff game against New York that led to a late touchdown.Hester married the former Katie Tilley on July 28, 2007.
He proposed to her outside War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 2006, moments after LSU had beaten the Razorbacks, 31-26. Hester kept his nerves that day by sticking to his traditional pregame ritual of listening to his favorite Elvis Presley CD. Katie is the niece of former St. Louis Cardinals standout wide receiver Pat Tilley and Hester is a distant cousin of Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw. The young couple had their first child in September ’09, a son named Jackson.
