Irrfan Khan is undoubtedly one of the most respected Bollywood actors who are equally popular in the Hollywood. His Hollywood fame is pretty evident from the fact that he has worked in many Hollywood films with established actors and directors like Danny Boyle, Mira Nair, Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie, Michael Winterbottom, among others. Irrfan Khan has been honoured with several awards for his riveting performances in critically acclaimed films like Slumdog Millionaire, Maqbool, Haasil, The Namesake and A Mighty Heart.

Irrfan Khan was born was Sahabzade Irrfan Ali Khan on 30 November 1962 in Jaipur. In the year 1984, Irrfan earned a scholarship to the National School of Drama while he was pursuing his master's Degree in Arts. Irrfan Khan graduated from the NSD in the year 1987, he is married to another NSD graduate Sutapa Sikdar, a writer. The couple is blessed with two kids named Babil and Ayan.
Irrfan Khan initially appeared in Television shows like Chanakya, Sara Jahan Hamara, Banegi Apni Baat, Chandrakanta, Star Bestsellers, Sparsh and Kahkashan. Irrfan played the protagonist in Ali Sardar Jafri's Kahkashan and was seen in a negative lead in Star Plus's Darr. Irrfan Khan was supposed to make his bollywood debut in a cameo role in Mira Nair's 1988 release 'Salaam Bombay!' however his scenes were edited in the final print of the film. Irrfan was later seen in critically applauded films like Tapan Sinha's Ek Doctor Ki Maut that won National Film Award for Second Best Feature Film and Sturla Gunnarsson's Such a Long Journey.

Irrfan Khan's first film as a protagonist was Asif Kapadia's The Warrior that won Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film at the BAFTA and was also selected as the UK's entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Since then Irrfan Khan has appeared in several award winning films and created a niche for himself.

Irrfan Khan won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for Tigmanshu Dhulia's Haasil also starring Jimmy Shergill, Hrishita Bhatt and Ashutosh Rana. Irrfan Khan also starred in Vishal Bharadwaj's Maqbool alongside Tabu, Pankaj Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri. Maqbool, an Indian adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

After appearing in several average bollywood films, Irrfa Khan was seen in Michael Winterbottom's Hollywood film A Mighty Heart also starring Angelina Jolie, Dan Futterman and Will Patton.A Mighty Heart was based on Mariane Pearl's memoir A Mighty Heart and was Screened at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Irrfan's next film The Namesake directed by notable filmmaker Mira Nair was screened at several film festivals including the ones in Toronto and New York.

At the same time, Irrfan won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Anurag Basu's Life In A Metro also starring Kay Kay Menon, Shilpa Shetty, Konkona Sen Sharma, Shiney Ahuja, Sharman Joshi and Kangana Ranaut. Irrfan Khan was next seen in a significant role in Danny Boyle's multiple Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire. Irrfan Khan received the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Irrfan Khan was recently seen in Hollywood romance-film New York, I Love you that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. He featured in Mira Nair's segment opposite Natalie Portman. Irrfan Khan is currently working on a couple of projects including Tigmanshu Dhulia's Paan Singh Tomar.
