When someone asks Humberto Suazo as to his profession, he answers, without flinching: "goalscorer". To prove it, he sometimes provides statistics of the goals he has scored during his career, which started at the age of six at the Santiago Paperchase Club.
When Suazo was 16, he was sold to Universidad Catolica. However he failed to settle, eventually sent out on loan after following a catalogue of disciplinary incidents. From there, he started the long road back, taking in several Chilean clubs. He moved first to Ñublense, then returned to Catolica before passing through Magallanes, San Antonio Unido, San Luis, Audax Italiano and Colo Colo.
Despite his problems, Suazo has always been deadly in the box. It is this which prompted Colo Colo to sign him, at the request of Argentine coach Claudio Borghi. After several seasons of varying success, he left to join Mexico's Monterrey. Unable to behave himself there either, he had his fair share of ups and downs, but always delivered the goals that were expected of him.
Strengths: The complete striker - always dangerous with great control and a powerful shot.
Weaknesses: Hindered by his constant indiscipline.
Career high: Holds the record for most goals in a single season in the Chilean league, scoring 51 times during the 2006 season.
Career low: His first few months at Monterrey, Mexico, where he was constantly in the news for falling out with teammates and supporters.
Style: A natural-born striker, he moves well both inside and outside the box.
Trivia: He is third in Colo Colo's all-time scoring list.
Quotes: "This is the right time for me. It is a great opportunity to fulfill my dream. I hope that once the tournament in Mexico ends I will have a chance." Suazo, referring to his chances to play for a European team.
