Turned pro in 2003, Tecau won his first ATP doubles in January 16, 2010 at the 2010 Heineken Open in Auckland, New Zealand. The 27-year-old player also won two doubles titles, (one Challenger and one ATP World Tour 250 Series), at Marrakech and Casablanca, which confirmed his good form.
He won his third doubles title at 's-Hertogenbosch and his second with partner Robert Lindstedt (his first with him came in Casablanca).For his first time in his career Tecau reached a Grand Slam at the 2010 Wimbledon Championships. He and his partner, Robert Lindstedt, defeated in the quarter finals the pair Tommy Robredo and Marcel Granollers in four sets, qualifying for the semifinals where they defetead the duo Juan Ignacio Chela and Eduardo Schwank 6–4, 7–5, 6–2. In the final Tecău and Lindstedt were defeated by the pair of Jürgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner with the score 6–1, 7–5, 7–5.
At Wimbledon mixed doubles, he and his fellow Romanian partner Monica Niculescu, lost in the second round to the pair Marcelo Melo and Rennae Stubbs with the score 3–6, 2–6.
Along with his partner Lindstedt, Tecau won their first title together at the 2012 Swedish Open after beating the pair Andreas Seppi and Simone Vagnozzi with the score 6–4, 7–5. At 2010 Pilot Pen Tennis the two won one more title, winning over Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi 6-4, 7-5.
At the 2011 Australian Open Horia and Robert were seeds No. 11 but despite leading 1–0 in the first round match against wildcards Colin Ebelthite and Adam Feeney they were forced to retire yet again due to Robert's injury.
After the year's first Grand Slam, Horia decided to give his partner, Robert, time to recover and paired for the PBZ Zagreb Indoors with experienced doubles player, Belgian Dick Norman. This was a successful choice and they reached the tournament final and won it.
Following the Zagreb title Horia paired for the next two tournaments with Austrian Julian Knowle and Pakistani Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi but with little succes exiting both competitions after the first round. He then paired with fellow countryman Victor Hănescu for their biggest doubles title to date, the 500 point Abierto Mexicano Telcel. In the final they won against Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares in straight sets 6–1, 6–3.
In April, they have defended their title in Casablanca, after an impressive display and losing just one set in the first round of the tournament.
He had a good grasscourt season with two finals together with Lindstedt, losing in the final of Wimbledon to the Bryan twins.
At the return to clay he defended his win at Swedish Open again with Lindstedt.
At 2012 Australian Open, Tecau paired with American player Bethanie Mattek-Sands win the years' first Grand Slam defeating Elena Vesnina of Russia and Leander Paes of India in the mixed doubles final during day fourteen at Melbourne Park on January 29, 2012 in Melbourne, Australia.
