Already having made a name for herself as the highly energetic frontwoman of new country trio Trick Pony, Heidi Newfield decided upon a solo career, and in November of 2006 announced that she was leaving the group and going it alone. The Heldsburg, CA-raised Newfield was exposed to the music she would make a career out of at an early age. With her love of country, blues, and rock in tow, Newfield made her first attempts at stardom at the very young age of 13, taking a trip to Nashville to cut a demo. In 1996, she joined up with Keith Burns and Ira Dean to form Trick Pony. The group would go on to release a handful of Top 20 singles, and won an ACM Best New Artist Award. After announcing that she was to leave the aforementioned band, Newfield went into the studio to begin work on her debut solo album, a collection of work that was to touch on a number of moods and styles. The leadoff single and track from the eventual full-length, "Johnny and June," was a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot Country charts in the spring of 2008.
