Darrelle Revis life and biography

Darrelle Shavar Revis is an American football cornerback for the New York Jets of the National Football League. Revis was drafted in the first round (14th overall) by the Jets in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

◊ Started all 32 games in his career and has recorded 150 tackles, one sack, eight interceptions, one touchdown, 28 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

◊ Finished his three-year career at Pittsburgh with 129 tackles, eight interceptions and four touchdowns; two via punt returns and two via interceptions.
◊ Semifinalist for the 2006 Jim Thorpe Award for the nation’s top defensive back.
◊ Named to the Rivals All-America Team (third team) as a “utility” player.
◊ First Pittsburgh cornerback to be selected first team All-Conference twice since new teammate Hank Poteat accomplished the feat in 1998 and 1999.
◊ His 73-yard punt return against West Virginia was selected the 2006 “College Football Play of the Year” by ESPN. On the play, Revis fielded the punt on a bounce, cut all the way across the field and then weaved through several potential tacklers up the sideline to reach the end zone.
◊ As a junior, became the first player in Pittsburgh history to return an interception for a touchdown in consecutive games.
◊ In 2004, was named to the first-team Freshman All- America by The Sporting News.
◊ The first true freshman to start an opening game for Pitt’s defense since cornerback Shawntae Spencer started the 2000 opener against Kent State.
◊ Played quarterback, defensive back, wide receiver, cornerback and kick returner at Aliquippa (PA) HS, where he was named the Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AA Player of the Year and a first-team selection of the Pennsylvania Class AA All-State team as a senior.
◊ Compiled 1,637 total yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior, averaging 15.4 yards per touch.
◊ Played basketball, averaging 22.8 points per game as a senior in earning Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AA All-State first team honors and a selection for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s “Fabulous Five.”

◊ In track at Aliquippa HS, he ran on the WPIAL Class AA champion 400-meter relay team that placed third at state championships.
◊ Nephew of former defensive tackle Sean Gilbert, who spent 12 seasons with the Rams, Redskins, Panthers and Raiders and also attended Pitt (1988-91) and Aliquippa HS.
◊ Participated in the United Way Hometown Huddle, 10/8/07, which supports youth fitness by volunteering time and lending a voice.
◊ Supported Play 60 NFL Draft week event in 2008 which promotes children getting out and playing for one hour a day.
