In 2001, McGimsie kick-started her career in broadcasting as an intern in the Citytv Toronto newsroom where she was hired on as a floor director for the weekend news. McGimsie became an on-air personality as the host YTV's The Hit List and later became an entertainment reporter for Star! Daily in 2005. She was the host of… More Hyperspace before becoming a reporter for etalk. She has also appeared on A-Channel News at Six and A-Channel News at 11 with daily entertainment updates. McGimsie also appears weekly on CP24 Breakfast to talk about the latest entertainment news.
Throughout her career, McGimsie has interviewed many of big-name celebrities. As a reporter for etalk she has had the opportunity to interview Anthony Hopkins, Ben Affleck, Beyoncé Knowles, Colin Farrell, James Franco, Jennifer Aniston, Jude Law, Katie Holmes, Kim Catrall, Michael Cain, Orlando Bloom, Robert Downy Jr., Sarah Ferguson, Tom Hanks, and the cast of the Twilight series.
Reporting for etalk has sent McGimsie to travelling around world. She updates audiences on the latest entertainment news at festivals and on film sets. She has reported from the Sundance Film Festival, The Toronto International Film Festival, The Teen Choice Awards, The Independent Spirit Awards, Elton John's annual post-Oscar Party, Emmy nomination day and Emmy after parties. McGimsie has interviewed, on location, the casts of the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Hawaii), Harry Potter (London, England) and Couples Retreat (Bora Bora) and travelled to Rome for the Angels and Demons premiere.
