His first big role was the role of "Srikanth" he played in Kaakha Kaakha as a police officer beside the hero Surya. His next big role and his best so far was his role of "Amudhan" in the blockbuster Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu in which he plays the role of a psychopath killer and a medical student. Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu was a story about a serial killer and "Daniel" played villain to the legendary "Kamal Hassan". His next film Polladhavan was also appreciated and the movie turned out to be a blockbuster.
He also acted as one of the villains in telugu film 'Chirutha'. He is a close friend of director Gautham Menon and has been involved in some way or the other, in his films. Critics have largely condemned his performance as bordering on overacting in both Polladhavan and Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu. Daniel is one of the heroes of director Srinath's Muthirai.
Balaji made his debut in Malayalam cinema through Black. Later he was cast the villain in Bhagavan (opposite Mohanlal) and Daddy Cool (opposite Mammootty).
