Cybill Shepherd is an American actress and former model. Her best known roles include starring as Jacy in The Last Picture Show, as Betsy in Taxi Driver, as Maddie Hayes on Moonlighting, as Cybill Sheridan on Cybill and as Phyllis Kroll on The L Word.

Born Cybill Lynne Shepherd on February 18, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee. The all-American beauty Cybill Shepherd began singing as a young girl, and after being named Miss Teenage Memphis she made an unsuccessful bid for Miss Teenage America. She worked as a model and was named Model of the Year in 1966. She also attended New York University.

Shepherd made her critically acclaimed film debut in The Last Picture Show (1971), followed by The Heartbreak Kid (1973) and Taxi Driver (1976). After 1979’s prophetically titled The Lady Vanishes, Shepherd disappeared from the big screen for more than a decade, moving her career to the small screen.

Shepherd starred in the short-lived 1982 series The Yellow Rose before landing a career-making role opposite Bruce Willis in the long-running detective comedy series Moonlighting (1985–9). During the 1980s she also starred in the miniseries Long Hot Summer and served as spokeswoman for L’Oreal. From 1995 to 1998, she produced and starred in a loosely autobiographical CBS sitcom about a has-been actress called Cybill. Shepherd has also starred as Martha Stewart in two TV movies. She joined the cast of Showtime’s lesbian-themed series The L Word in 2006.

Cybill Shepherd was married to David Ford from 1978 to 1982; they have one child. She was married to Bruce Oppenheim from 1987-1990; they have two children. She published her memoirs, Cybill Disobedience, in 2000.
