Originally signed by Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2008, Smith has seen action in 22 games in his three-year NFL career, recording 12 rushes for 47 yards and notching six receptions for 28 yards. On special teams, he has registered 70 kickoff returns for 1,946 yards (27.8 avg.) with one touchdown and 48 punt returns for 565 yards (11.8 avg.) with one touchdown. In 2009, Smith returned 31 kickoffs for 902 yards with an NFL-leading 29.1 average. As a rookie, he was selected to the Pro Bowl as a kick returner and was a second-team AP All-Pro selection as a kick returner after returning 36 kickoffs for 992 yards with one touchdown and 23 punt returns for 324 yards with one touchdown. He was waived by the Buccaneers on September 5, 2010 and signed by the Miami Dolphins on September 8, where he appeared in two contests before being waived on September 21.
A four-year letterman at Fresno State University (2004-07), Smith played in 35 games, rushing for 630 yards on 102 attempts with five touchdowns and posting 34 receptions for 368 yards.
Born on July 4, 1985, the 5-9, 190-pound Smith is a native of Fresno, Calif., where he attended Edison High School.
