PRO:
Chris Simms is a savvy signal caller that will battle for a backup quarterback spot with the Titans in 2010. The left-handed veteran possesses an accurate arm and solid poise in the pocket. The former third-round pick is fully-recovered from a serious spleen injury suffered in 2006.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
• In 2005, played in 11 games with 10 starts and completed 191 of 313 pass attempts for 2,035 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions for a passer rating of 81.4. Set a Buccaneers postseason record with 25 completions and 38 pass attempts in NFC Wild Card game against Washington (1/7).

• Simms is the son of former New York Giants star and 1987 Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms, who is CBS’ lead commentator for NFL games. Other NFL father/son quarterback combos: Griese - Bob (father) and Brian (son), Kemp - Jack (father) and Jeff (son), Manning - Archie (father) and Eli (son) and Peyton (son), Nix - Emery (father) and Kent (son).
• Simms’ brother, Matt, is a junior quarterback competing for the starting spot with the University of Tennessee this season. Matt transferred into the Volunteers program from El Camino Community College in California.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
• The Ramapo, N.J., native was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round (97th overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft.
• Released by the Buccaneers on Aug. 31, 2008 and signed by the Titans on Sept. 10, 2008. Was released by the Titans on Oct. 4, 2008 before being resigned two days later.
• Signed with the Denver Broncos as an unrestricted free agent on March 5, 2009.
• Released by the Broncos on March 15, 2010 and was signed by the Titans as a free agent on April 19, 2010.

COLLEGE:

• Established himself as one of the most successful signal callers in Longhorns history. Played in 43 games and started 32 during his career and completed 535 of 911 pass attempts (58.7%) for 7,097 yards, 58 touchdowns and 31 interceptions. Is the Texas’ record holder for career completion percentage (58.7%) and pass efficiency rating (138.36). Ranks second on the school’s career touchdown passes chart (58) and fourth on the school’s career passing yards (7,097), total offense (7,960) and completions (535) lists.
• Started all 13 games as a senior and completed 235 of 396 passes (59.3%) for 3,207 yards and a school-record 26 touchdowns. Also rushed for four scores and set a school single-season record with 30 combined touchdowns.
• As junior, started 12 games and completed 214 of 362 passes for 2,603 yards (No. 2 on UT’s single-season list) and a school-record 22 touchdowns. Also rushed for six scores.
• As sophomore, played in 11 games in 2000, including the Holiday Bowl, and started six contests. Completed 67 of 117 passes (57.3 percent) for 1,064 yards and eight touchdowns. Posted a Big XII-leading 144.25 pass efficiency rating and helped lead a passing attack that set a UT single-season record and ranked 14th nationally (293.5 ypg).
• In 1999, primarily served as the backup quarterback and played in seven games, including the Cotton Bowl.
• Majored in history at Texas.

PERSONAL:

• Married Danielle just prior to training camp in 2004. The couple has a daughter Charlotte Elizabeth.
• Named the 1998 USA Today National Offensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-USA selection. Rated as the top quarterback on the 1998 Parade All-American team. Named USA Today’s New Jersey Player of the Year (1998). One of only three players to be named to the prestigious Heisman High School (Tri-State) All-Star team twice (1997-1998).
• A two-time first-team All-State performer. Listed among Gatorade Circle of Champions as the 1998 New Jersey Player of the Year. Also rated as the New Jersey Player of the Year by USA Today and The Associated Press. Completed 381 of 640 passes for 7,055 yards and 63 touchdowns (13 interceptions) in 39 career games.
• In 2006 and 2007, explored Busch Gardens, Big Cat Rescue, the Florida Aquarium and Lowry Park Zoo with kids from The Children’s Home through the “Wild Adventures Program,” which he created in 2006 out of his love for children and animals.
• Participated in the NFL/United Way Hometown Huddle, where he distributed information in downtown Tampa about how to get involved in the United Way’s local volunteer program.
• Participated in local “Taste of the NFL” event, which benefited America’s Second Harvest Food Bank. Participated in the Play It Smart Football Clinic at Princeton University during the offseason in 2004, which was hosted by then-teammate Jason Garrett.
