Originally selected as a third round (75th pick overall) draft choice by the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. Declared a free agent on February 2, 2004. Signed by the New England Patriots on January 6, 2005. Waived by the Patriots on June 1. Signed by the Tennessee Titans on August 23. Waived by the Titans on September 4. Signed by the Atlanta Falcons on March 23, 2007. Re-signed by the Falcons on February 29, 2008.

CAREER
Has competed in 23 career games with 12 starts and has completed 262 of 466 passes for 2,971 yards 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions for a 77.8 passer rating. Earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after accumulating 251 passing yards and a career-high four touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks in the 2007 season finale. Set career highs in 2007 with 10 touchdowns while setting game highs in completions (28), attempts (42) and passing yards (315) against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15. Spent four seasons with the Ravens (2000-03), playing in 10 games with six starts and completing 106 of 198 passes for 1,111 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. His record as a starter was 3-3.

2009 (Falcons)
Saw action in five contests and started two contests for an injured Matt Ryan. Entered a Week 12 contest against Tampa Bay (11/29) for an injured Matt Ryan and completed 23 of 41 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns as the Falcons earned a last minute victory over the Buccaneers. Completed 21 of 44 passes for 235 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in his first start of the season against Philadelphia (12/6). Started against New Orleans (12/13) and completed 23 of 34 passes for 303 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Completed a 50-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Michael Jenkins in the third quarter.

2008 (FALCONS)
Spent the 2008 season as the back-up quarterback for rookie Matt Ryan, providing veteran leadership, experience and advice.

2007 (FALCONS)
Competed in seven games starting in four while completeing 89 of 149 passes for 1,079 yards with 10 touchdowns and a 90.4 passer rating. Started his first NFL game at quarterback since October 20, 2002 vs. Jacksonville when he was a member of the Baltimore Ravens. Completed 23 of 40 passes for 298 yards with two touchdowns vs. New Orleans (12/10). Set career highs in completions (28), attempts (42) and passing yards (315) at Arizona (12/23) while adding two touchdown passes. His 74-yard strike to rookie WR Laurent Robinson in the second quarter marked his longest career completion, and assisted the Falcons in producing two 100-yard receivers in the same game (Roddy White, 141 and Laurent Robinson, 114) for the first time since 1998. Completed 17 of 27 passes for 251 yards and a career-high four touchdowns vs. Seattle (12/30). He became the first Falcons quarterback to throw for four TDs in a game since the feat was accomplished twice in 2006.

2003 (RAVENS)
Saw action in two games for the Ravens, completing seven of 13 passes for 58 yards in addition to rushing two times for four yards. Made one pass attempt vs. Cleveland (9/14). Completed seven of 12 passes for 58 yards with two interceptions at St. Louis (11/9).

2002 (RAVENS)
Started the first six games of the season, earning a 3–3 record in his first season as a starter and completed 97 of 182 passes for 1,034 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Completed 20 of 34 passes for 218 yards and one touchdown in first career start in the season opener at Carolina (9/8). Completed 63% of his passes (19 of 30) for 208 yards with two touchdowns at Cleveland (10/6). Completed 14 of 28 passes for 152 yards with two touchdowns in 17–10 victory vs. Jacksonville (10/20).

2001 (RAVENS)
Saw action in two games during the season and one postseason contest. Inactive for the first six games and final eight contests of the season, as well as the Divisional Playoff game at Pittsburgh (1/20/02).

2000 (RAVENS)
Played in two games, completing two of three passes for 19 yards on the season. Made NFL debut vs. Cincinnati (9/24), completing two passes for 19 yards. Played vs. Cleveland (11/26) despite entering the game as the third quarterback and ran two offensive series.

COLLEGE
Completed college career as the NCAA Division 1-A leader in career passing completions (1,031) and attempts (1,679). His 12,541 career passing yards rank second behind BYU's Ty Detmer (15,031 yards). Posted 84 touchdown passes, and holds every Cardinals' single game, single-season and career passing record. Started 11 games as a senior and completed 317 of 489 passes for 3,647 yards with 29 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Became the first quarterback in NCAA Division 1-A to complete more than 1,000 passes in a career as he was named the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Winner and All-Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year his senior year. Guided Louisville to seven come-from-behind wins as the Cardinals made their second consecutive bowl appearance. Started 10 of 11 games as a junior and established Conference USA and Cardinals season records for attempts (473), completions (309), yards (4,042) and touchdowns (29) despite missing a game because of a knee injury. Started 11 games in 1997 and shattered single-season school passing marks in attempts (445), completions (261), yards (3,079) and total offense (2,958). Played in 10 games as a rookie, starting the final five, and earned Conference USA All-Freshman honors as he tossed for more than 1,700 yards.

PERSONAL
Two-time all-state quarterback at Male (Louisville, KY) High School, where he was coached by his father Bob. Named the Parade National Player of the Year. Threw for 3,752 yards and a national record 57 touchdowns as a senior. Sold insurance in Louisville prior to being signed by Atlanta in 2007. Avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.
