Living in Atlanta, he crossed paths with many of the superstars of WCW. While working out in a gym co-owned by Sting and Lex Luger, Sting convinced him to go to the WCW Power Plant training facility. His TV debut was on September 22, 1997, where he beat Hugh Morris. On the July 6, 1998, edition of Nitro, he beat Hulk Hogan for the WCW title in a match at the Georgia Dome which was the highest attended WCW event ever.
He would lose the title in December at Starrcade 98 in a match that was also his first loss as a professional wrestler. He spent the next year feuding with the New World Order. He then started a feud with Bret Hart and during their Starrcade 99 match kicked Bret in the head so hard that Bret suffered a career ending injury.
Goldberg made his WWE debut 2 years later. During his off, time he was still being paid by AOL Time Warner and used that time to further his own celebrity. He went on to become WWE champion by beating Triple H. His final match for WWE was at WrestleMania XX in a match the fans booed mercilessly because the fans knew it was the final match for both him and his opponent Brock Lesnar.
