Aziz Ansari is having a breakout year starring in a popular television series, a number of films, and debuting his first hour-long stand-up special and album. Entertainment Weekly has named him one of the top future stars of comedy, LA Weekly put him on the cover of their annual People Issue and Paste Magazine recently named him one of the Top 10 Comedians of the Decade. Ansari currently co-stars opposite SNL's Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones in the critically acclaimed NBC Comedy Series, "Parks and Recreation" from the producers and creators of "The Office." Ansari plays Tom Haverford, the sarcastic and occasionally sleazy government employee who is trying to weasel his way to the top of the local Parks and Recreation department in Pawnee, Indiana. Ansari is also releasing his much anticipated special and album for Comedy Central titled, "Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening."
Ansari can also be seen in a handful of feature films. He appeared in Judd Apatow's comedy "Funny People" opposite Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Jonah Hill. In the film, Ansari plays a vulgar, sex-obsessed stand-up comedian named "Raaaaaaaandy." The popularity of the character led Judd Apatow to commission a series of mockumentaries based on "Raaaaaaaandy" which have been released on FunnyOrDie.com. Ansari also recently wrapped production on another Judd Apatow film "Get Him to the Greek," which he will appear alongside Russell Brand, Jonah Hill and Sean "Diddy" Combs. Ansari also has had roles in the hit comedies "I Love You, Man" with Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, and opposite Seth Rogen and Anna Faris in "Observe and Report."
Ansari first came to audiences' attention on MTV's hit sketch comedy series, "Human Giant." The series is based around short films starring Ansari, along with Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer. Ansari also had a memorable guest starring role on HBO's "Flight of the Conchords," in which he portrayed a racist fruit vendor. In addition, he was seen in a multi-episode arc on "Scrubs" earlier this year.
Ansari recently completed his "Glow in the Dark" Comedy Stand-Up Tour, which concluded in early 2009 with the recording of his album. Ansari began performing stand-up in 2001 while attending NYU. In 2005, Rolling Stone named him their choice for "Hot Stand-up" on their annual "Hot List," and he was awarded the Jury Award for Best Stand-up at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen in 2006.
Ansari currently resides in Los Angeles .
